Colombo arrival, meet-welcome and transfer to Sigiriya. Accompanied by a guide, you will visit the Rock Fortress, which is regarded as the eighth wonder of the ancient world. It is a complex of buildings, part-royal palace, and part fortified town, and water gardens on par with the best in the ancient world, which constitute a magnificent and unique architectural feat of the ancient Sinhalese.
Stay at Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya for 2 nights.

Day 2 Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa, exploration (Breakfast)

After breakfast, you will explore a guided trip to Polonnaruwa ancient Kingdom. The Islands medieval capital rose to fame after the decline of Anuradhapura. The city in its day was fortified with three concentric walls, beatified with parks gardens and sanctified by many shrines. Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend of the influence of the south Indian Hindu culture and on the Buddhist art and architecture in the scattered shrines and monuments, which still today is venerated daily by devotees. Optionally you can visit a National Park in the afternoon, and enjoy a jungle safari by a four-wheel jeep.

Day 3 Drive Sigiriya – Kandy, exploration, 2 nights in Kandy (breakfast)

On the way to Kandy, visit Dambulla Cave Temples. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colorful paintings which depict Buddhist mythology and tales of the Buddha’s previous birth. Some of them are over 2000 years old. Within the cave temple is a collection of large numbers of Buddha statues in one place. Visit Nalanda Gedige – en route to Kandy, it’s the earliest of all stone buildings. Thereafter, explore a Spice Garden – the spice which first drew Europeans to the Island – Cloves, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, and Pepper still grows in great abundance in Sri Lanka.
Afterward, you will visit Aluvihara Temple – which is an ancient rock temple of great significance in the history of Buddhism. Kandy is the citadel of the hills. Set like a jewel among green mountains chains, Kandy Lake and girdled by the Mahaweli River, Sri Lanka’s longest river, the capital of the Island’s last independent Kingdom has retained a distinctive identity and character.
In the evening you visit with a guide the Temple of Tooth. The importance of Kandy is mainly due to being the home of the Dalada Maligawa, which houses the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. Stay at The Kandy House, Kandy for 2 nights.

Day 4 Kandy, Pinnawala Elephant orphanage (Breakfast)

Visit Pinnawala Elephant orphanage – The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Often the young ones fall into fits and ravines in their quest for water during a drought period. Other inmates at the orphanage are those displaced from their natural environment by development projects or those founds diseased or wounded. The animals that were brought during the initials years are now capable of breeding and have in fact bred. The best time to visit is during feeding times when one will have the opportunity of watching the baby elephants being bottle-fed, it is amazingly cute… You could also grab the chance to accompany the elephants to a river close-by and see the elephants having their daily bath, also very cute! Optionally you can visit a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lanka Dancing, Mask and Fire, in the evening.

Day 5 Drive Kandy – Nuwara Eliya, train ride to Ella, 2 nights in Ella (Breakfast)

En route to Nuwara Eliya visit Pedro or Lipton Tea Factories: Visit the tea plantation/factory, where the best tea in the world is produced, you will be informed and guided about the process of manufacturing tea. Day 6 Ella, soft adventure trek (Breakfast)

Ella Gap/Rock – The most rewarding, and most taxing, hike around Ella is the ascent of the majestic Ella Rock, which looms over the village of Ella. It’s around a four-hour hike in total, with an interesting mix of rail track, tea plantation, and some steep stuff near the summit. Carry food, water, and good footwear, and take care in wet weather, when tracks can get slippery.
There are several different possible routes; most begin by following the rail line south out of the village, then following one of the various paths which strike off up the rock.

Morning, drive to Galle which is a major city in Sri Lanka. Visit the magnificent fortified city. The fort has a colorful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage as UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria IV, for its unique exposition of “an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.” After the Galle Fort tour, you can use the new highway to reach Colombo quickly.
