The tower is said to have been built by an innkeeper to honor a monk in olden times. According to the story, the innkeeper fed the itinerant monk for many months without payment. Just before moving on, the monk repaid the innkeeper's kindness by drawing a yellow crane on the wall of the inn. The magic crane came to life and danced every evening, attracting many visitors and making the innkeeper very wealthy. Years later the monk returned to the inn, climbed aboard the magic crane, and flew away.
