City Info: Wuhan, Hubei Province

The city that marks the end the downstream Yangtze cruise is actually a trio of cities: Hankou and Hanyang (divided by the Han River) on the west side of the Yangtze, and Wuchang on the east bank. Wuhan has always been the Yangzi′s major inland river port, since it marked the furthest point to which seagoing vessels could sail. In the last century, the city became a Treaty Port and grew rich on the tea trade, which was centred on Hankou. Hankou was the city with the foreign concessions, and to this city has remained the commercial centre of Wuhan. Today, Wuhan serves as a major rail hub and home of China's largest steel works.
