City Info: Nanchang, Jiangxi Province

  Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province and the center of the provincial economy, politics, science and technology, and culture and education, is an old city Jiangnan with a long history, known as a heroic city because of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising. Governing five districts (East Lake, West Lake, Qingyunpu, Wanli and Jiaoqu) and four counties (Nanchang, Xinjian, Jinxian, and Anyi) with a total area of 7,400 square kilometers. Over 5,000 years ago, ancestors of present-day residents used flint implements to exploit this rich land. The town was first built in 200 BC. In the fifth year of the reign of the Han Emperor, Gaozu (202 BC), Yuzhang Jun (Jun was an ancient administrative division equal to a present-day prefecture) was set up, which governed a county named Nanchang.

Made up of the local dishes in Nanchang and Ganzhou, Jiangxi Cuisine is famous for its deliberate choice of local materials and duration and degree of heating. It excels at braising, steaming, stewing, stir frying and smoldering. Its famous dishes include Three-Cup Chicken, Stir-Fried Meat and Preserved Bacon.

Museums
Jiangxi Museum
Built in 1958, Jiangxi Museum is situated on the southern edge of the People's Square, in the center of the city proper. The museum is the center of collection and preservation of historic antiques, and of undertaking archaeological work and research. A lot of flint, bronze, iron implements; ceramic and porcelain wares; gold, silver and jade wares; and ancient drawings are well preserved here.
