ancient city of Luoyang, which lies just to the north of the Yellow River
in Henan Province, has a distinguished history as a dynastic capital second
only to Xian. The Zhou Dynasty established its capital on the present site
of Luoyang in 1027BC, and over the next 2,000 years the city served as the
capital of nine dynasties. Luoyang is called Peony City. Every spring the city bursts into what seems to be a hundred different colours. Visitors could easily spend two days in Luoyang, though a full day will cover the most important sights.
