City Info: Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province. It is just 129 miles (201 km) southwest of Shanghai. It sits on the northern bank of the Qiantang River at the edge of the small, but infinitely famous, West Lake. Though it has become a cliche the phrase that every Chinese tour guide used to introduce the city seems apt:" Above there is Heaven. Below, Hangzhou and Suzhou." Indeed, this is one of the most beautiful places in China. Hangzhou is more than its beauty, of course. The city is a bustling commercial center and one of East China's most productive agricultural areas, as well. Hangzhou is most famous for the rich silk produced there and for one of China's best green teas.
