| Elephant
Trunk Hill is one of the Lijiang River's most famous sights. The hill is
situated on the western bank of the Lijiang River, to the southeast of Guilin.
It looks like an elephant, dipping its snout into the Lijiang River, hence
the name "Elephant Trunk Hill". This sight is very representative
of the landscape around Guilin and is a symbol of Guilin itself. A park
and a Ming Dynasty pagoda are found on and around the Elephant Trunk Hill. |

The Li River Cruise ...................................................................................................................................................................................... |
| The 5-hour downstream cruise along the Li River reveals Guilin in all its splendor. The names of the passing limestone formations describe the unfolding scene: Elephant Trunk Hill, Lotus-Flower Crag, Old Man Mountain, Mural Hill, Crescent Moon and Folded Brocade Hill. The cruise often ends at the market town of Yangshuo, about 50 miles (80 km) downstream. Some travelers prefer Yangshou to the more crowed and touristy Guilin. | ![]() |

Fubo Hill ...................................................................................................................................................................................... |
| Rich in history
and the source of a number of mythical tales, Fubo (1.5 miles from the center
of town) affords a beautiful bird's-eye view of Guilin. Along the stairway
leading to its summit stand a cast-iron bell weighing 1,360 Kg and an enormous
cooking pot capable of serving a thousand people. On the southern slope
of Fubo is Returned Pearl Cave. Chinese legend says it once was inhabited
by a dragon and illuminated by a single flawless pearl. Nearby is Thousand

Reed Flute Cave ...................................................................................................................................................................................... |
| Likened
by one writer to a set from Journey to the center of the Earth, this underground
phenomenon rivals the natural wonders overhead as a reason for visiting
Guilin. Located some 4 miles from the city center, Reed Flute Cave takes
its name from the reeds growing at the mouth of cave. Inside is a vast subterranean
grotto capable of holding a thousand people. Visitors should wear jackets
and walking shoes with deep treads to tour this and the other slippery wet
caves. |

| ...................................................................................................................................................................................... Diecai (Folded Brocade) Hill ...................................................................................................................................................................................... |
| The
name was inspired by the colorful limestone formations covering the hill,
which resemble skeins if silken thread. Diecai, which is the tallest of
the many peaks within the city limits of Guilin (240 feet or 73m), contains
the Wind Cave with its Ming and Tang poetic inscriptions. From here, visitors
can gaze at lyrically named peaks like Bright Moon, Crane Peak and Seeing
Around the Hill. << Back to Guilin Info |
