  Sichuan's capital is a modern city in the mold of Beijing or Shanghai, though not as large or congested. It was the broad, tree-lined streets typical of Beijing, the varied architecture of Shanghai, and the gregarious, open nature of most southern cities in China.
Chengdu means "perfect metropolis", boasts a 2,300-year history, was the capital of the state of Shu (even today, Sichuan is referred to by the name of Shu). The city was once among the most splendid in China, with its own grand city walls (pulled down in 1949) and Vice-regal Palace destroyed in the 1960s.

Sichuan cuisine, it's easily China's hottest and spiciest cuisine. Hearty cooking flavored with an exotic palette of spices: red and black pepper, sesame paste, flower pepper and fermented bean paste.

When to Go
Avoid summer, which is very hot and humid. Winters are mild, spring and fall ideal.

- Sichuan Provincial Museum
This is the largest provincial museum in the South-West, with more than 150,000 items on display.

The site was as once an important commercial center of the Sun Kingdom. Remains include city walls, two large sacrificial pits and several bronze masks.
