Shaoshan

Shaoshan--104 kilometers away from Changsha, Shaoshan is the birth place of Late Chairman Mao Zedong, who's born in a peasant family on December 26, 1893, Mao spent his childhood there till 1910 when he went out of hometown to study. He had ever gone back to his hometown in 1925, 1959 and 1966.
Now Shaoshan is one of the important tourist zones in Hunan province. The major tourist sites including the Mao Zedong's Old Home, Memorial Hall of Mao Zedong, Water-dripping Cave and Steles Forest of Mao's Poems.
Mao Zedong's old home is a common cottage, which is brick and wood constructed. The interior layout follows the original one of Mao's time and some items of furniture are still those once used by Mao. Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, built and opened to the public in 1964, has 13 rooms, with a combined floor space of 2,000 square meters. The exhibits there include 100 pieces of Mao Zedong's manuscripts and 72 items of Mao's personal belongings.

Mt. Hengshan

Located about 193 miles (310 km) south of Changsha. It is said to be the most beautiful mountain south of Yantze. Countless Buddhist temples decorate the 72 peaks of Hengshan, many dating from the Tang and Song dynasties.
Mt. Hengshan extends 150 kilometers. The highest peak of the mountain is called Zhurong Peak, 1,290 meters above the sea level. On the top, the Shaolin Temple and Watching Sunrise Platform are the best scenic spots.
The mountain boats many temples, among which the biggest is the Nanyue Temple, which covers an area of 100,000 square meters and which is the largest group of ancient buildings in Hunan province. The temple has nine courtyards and the main hall is 22 meters high, supported by 72 stone pillars, which symbolize the 72 peaks of the mountain. The temple, glazed in red and yellow, is linked with many other buildings and represents a grand palace complex.
Among the temples in the mountain, the Fuyan Temple is known as the nation's "temple of Buddhist doctrine" and the "Seven Founders' Temple to Perform Buddhist Rites".

Zhangjiajie & Wulingyuan Scenic Resort

Zhangjiajie, a northwest Hunan city 400 km from Changsha, is the site of the national Wulingyuan scenic resort, the first in China to be endorsed by UNESCO as a world natural heritage. The resort covers more than 500 square km and consists of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and two nature reserves-Suoxi Gully and Tianzi Mountain. With an unmatched sandy quartzie and karst landform, the resort is a sublime configuration of mountains, rivers, wood and caves. Major sights: Yellowstone Village, Golden Whip Stream, Tianzhi Mountain, Yellow Dragon Cave, Baofeng Lake and Maoyan River. Zhangjiajie International Forest Protection Festival is an annual event which takes place every September.
