Located in the very center of the Dongbei Plain, Changchun is one of the few cities in China that boasts a sizeable minority population including Manchurians, Muslims, Mongolians, Xibao and Zhuang. The city began its life in 1800 as a major granary in the north due to its unparalleled fertile soil. Within a quarter of a century, it quickly gained its fame as the rice and soy producing city of Asia.

Today Changchun is not only the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of Jilin province, but also China's famous "Auto City", "Movie City", "City of Science, Technology and Culture".

When to Go
Changchun boasts four distinct seasons-- Spring here is generally dry and windy; summer is short and warm; autumn is clear with big daily temperature differences; winter is piercingly cold and long.

The airport is located 10km west of the city center at the end of Yingbin Lu.
By taxi: around CNY 40-50/USD 5-6 per taxi.
Airport shuttle buses are available on a regular basis between the airport and the railway station

Events & Festivals
- Changchun International Film Festival
One of the major film festivals in China. Changchun International Film Festival is organized in August, every 2 years.

- Rimed Tree Festival
Time: In January every year
In addition to watching the rimed-trees, guests may participate in ice and snow sports incl. ice lantern and bonfire parties, and other entertain-ment activities (Manchu and Korean folklore celebrations) during the festival, which will last for over 40 days.


Museums
- Jilin Provincial Museum
The Jilin Provincial Museum is located in northeast corner of Changchun city, covering an area of 12 hectares. The building was originally built as the imperial palace for Aixinjueluo Puyi, the last emperor of Qing dynasty. Nowadays, it is a historical testimony of the Japanese imperialism's invasion to the Northeast and fabrication of the puppet government.
